| When Michael Grillo was suffering from cancer he wandered
the dispiriting hospital corridors and found himself in the pediatrics
ward. The children he met there, themselves suffering painfully,
reached out to him offering encouragement. He was so touched by
these children that he made a single promise: he asked God to let
him live and he would come back to that pediatrics ward every holiday
season and bring gifts to the special children there, his hope to
bring joy where joy is often hard to come by.
Michael Grillo lived and he has more than fulfilled his promise.
He founded Kids Against Cancer, Inc., a growing not-for-profit organization
that since 1983 has held an annual holiday toy drive for children
afflicted with cancer. The organization will now embark on its greatest
endeavor, to construct a state of the art health and recreational
facility where children with cancer can receive their treatment
in a unique environment that is uplifting, beautiful, and specifically
tailored to a child's needs.
Studies show that healing and recovery are enhanced by music, by
art, by beauty. The purpose of this facility is to incorporate state
of the art equipment and treatment into a day of healing in which
treatment is but one part of a day that is fun. On the following
pages you will read about the plans we have for this facility, the
research behind it, and how we will make all of the details unfold.
Kids Against Cancer is an IRS 501 (C)(3)
and New York State registered charity.
